Cisco UCS E-Series Servers bring data center-class blade servers to the branch office. These powerful, small form-factor, x86 64-bit blade servers reside in Cisco^®branch-office routers: the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISRs) networking platforms. The blades are virtualization-ready and host essential infrastructure services and mission-critical business applications, all while you maintain a lean branch-office environment (Figure 1).

Cisco UCS E-Series Servers

The Cisco Unified Computing System^™(Cisco UCS) E-series M3 Server is available in two flavors: as singlewide and as doublewide module. The singlewide version occupies a single service-module slot in the Cisco 4000 Series ISR as shown above. The doublewide module occupies two service-module slots side-by-side.

All Cisco UCS E-Series M3 Servers are high-density blade servers with single-socket Intel Xeon-D processors. They balance simplicity, performance, and application density while operating in an energy-efficient environment providing better energy efficiency than preceding models. The servers also include integrated remote lights-out management.

They thus provide an excellent platform for introducing virtualization into the branch office and supporting

mission-critical business applications. The innovative, zero-footprint form factor of the Cisco UCS E-Series Servers in conjunction with the lower total cost of ownership (TCO) of the Intel Xeon processor increases business agility and enhances reliability when compared to standalone rack-mount and tower servers.

Can I stack Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series Switches with the Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series Switches?

These switches do not stack together. Features are packaged differently between these platforms, they use different CPU architectures, and the platforms do not have the same scaling, making stacking with them impossible.

 Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series switches are the next generation of enterprise-class stackable access-layer switches that are part of the Cisco Catalyst 9000 switching family. These switches also support full IEEE 802.3at PoE+, Cisco UPOE, modular and field-replaceable network modules, redundant fans, and power supplies. In addition, Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series models support a variety of uplink modules for both copper and fiber uplink support. These models add even more flexibility to the interface choices that you can make in a single Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series switch or in a stack of Cisco Catalyst 9300 Series switches.

What are the different types of licenses in the Cisco Catalyst 3850?

There are two main types of Cisco Catalyst 3850 license: permanent RTU license and evaluation RTU license. These are available for both image-based licensing (IP Base or IP Services) and AP count licensing. A permanent RTU license is a paid license, with no expiration date. The universal Cisco IOS XE Softwarebased images have all three license levels: LAN Base, IP Base, and IP Services. RTU CLI commands enable the switch license to be moved between different license levels. An evaluation RTU license allows the customers to evaluate image-based and/or AP count license for 90 days at no cost.
