The difference between single-mode fiber and multimode fiber

Single-mode fiber (SMF) only allows a single optical mode to be transmitted in the fiber, and the light source is a laser light source. The cable color is mostly yellow, and the transmission distance of single-mode fiber is relatively long. Multimode fiber (MMF) supports a variety of optical mode transmission, the transmission distance is generally below 2km, the light source is LED light source, OM2 is generally used in gigabit optical modules, and OM3 is used in optical modules above 10 gigabit. The center wavelength is usually 850nm, and the transmission distance of multimode fiber is relatively short.
Therefore, when selecting the fiber of a 10 Gigabit optical module, it is necessary to choose the appropriate fiber type according to the actual application scenario. If it is a single-mode optical module that needs to transmit high-speed data over a long distance, a single-mode fiber should be selected; if it is a multi-mode optical module that transmits high-speed data over a short distance, a multi-mode fiber should be selected. As a professional module manufacturer,
